the snow is coming...

well, i made it back from Ky -and a few pounds heavier I might add. to be honest i should have just stayed home in KC and been lazy with my sweethubby -but oh no i had to cram a super short holiday visit into a long weekend. i really did enjoy myself and i guess it was worth it... since i did get to see my granny that i miss dearly and of course the rest of my family and a couple of friends as well.

we had a great night out with my sweethubby before we left on our trip. we went and ate at our favorite restaurant j0se peppers and then headed downtown to see Wicked and wicked good it was. i have to be honest and say that it wasn't as good as the show i seen in Chicago, but it was still great. the lady that played Galinda in this show just really over did her character to the point that it came off more annoying than funny and all i could think of was the SNL character that m0lly shann0n played -the cath0lic scoolgirl one...yeah she was like a cross of that character and an over perky cheerleader...it wasn't that great. the lady who played Elpheba did a GREAT job -really good! it is a great show and if you ever get the chance to see it -i highly recommend it.

sooo... we ended up having a late night wednesday since the show didn't end until after 11 therefore i ended up sleeping in on thanksgiving day and didn't leave KC until after 8am. atleast there wasn't much traffic -that was good. we made it to my grannies at about 8pm and ate some yummy leftovers...don't feel bad for me -my aunt cooked me a turkey dinner the next night and it was hot and delish!

my friends birthday was on thanksgiving day so saturday i stopped by and saw her after a day of shopping. and i picked her up a UK snuggie and she loved it (i hope my hubby doesn't read this b/c he would kill me if he knew i spent 1 cent on a piece of UK merchandise...so shhhh! it's our little secret) :)

we said our goodbyes over a DQ breakfast of yummy biscuits & gravy (another thing i miss about Ky since KC DQ's don't serve breakfast -it's a tragedy) and then hit the road. traffic on the way back was not so nice it took me about 2 hours longer than normal and i was dog tired when i got home. getting up to go to work the next day was not fun -not fun at all.

i didn't get out for any crazy black friday shopping but i have gotten some great deals the past couple weeks from my favorite stores Marshall$ and TJ M@xx -look what i found...

and

the jacket is a gift for my babygirl littlebit and the boots are for moi :)

we have a chiefs game to go to on sunday (it's supposed to snow -burrr!) and then we are going to decorate our christmas tree :)

hope y'all stay warm and have a great weekend!

A WICKED Thanksgiving!

I know it has been a LONG time since my last post, but what a great post to come back on.

I first saw WICKED in Chicago when my sweethubby and I took an anniversary celebration trip there in 2007. Of course, I fell in love with it immediately... the costumes, the make-up, the set, the music... I mean seriously... Have you seen it???

Well anyways, as soon as I heard it was coming to KC -I got tickets to take my lil'bit. She was so mad at me when she didn't get to go to Chicago and see it, so she is really excited that we are going.

And then as soon as the show is over we are going to hit the road to head back to KY to visit the family for Thanksgiving. It will be so great to go back for the holiday, I can't wait. I can taste my granny's turkey and my mom's chocolate and lemon pie right now.

And just to end on... because it is Veteran's Day... I'd like to say a GREAT BIG

i'm gonna be a working girl

that's right, starting monday august 31 i will officially be a working girl! not like you know a working girl working girl, but you know just the fact that i am a girl and will be working- haha.

i am very excited and it is a great opportunity. plus, i will be working at the hospital where my husband works. which means lunches on him.woohoo!
i must say though that i never thought i would ever work in a hospital. i hate hospitals. i despise everything about them. the look. the smell. the sick people, ewww! looks like i'm gonna have to just get over it i guess.

so anyways, back to the good stuff... like shopping. i haven't worked in an office setting for about 5 years. when i was teaching my wardrobe was pretty lax, i always looked professional, but you know it was professional on a different level. like i could get away with knee length shorts and blouses where as now it will be back to wearing stockings and closed toe shoes. plus, i'd be lying to say that i could actually wear my dress suits from my marketing days, i mean my arse isn't exactly the same size it used to be. i'm just saying.

so, i have been shopping, shopping, shopping! i bought one pair of black slacks, a pair of chocolate brown slacks, and also a pair of brown corduroys (just because), a pair of navy slacks, black & white pinstripe pants, and a new black pencil skirt. I also got several light-weight short sleeved cord sweaters and a few button-up blouses. I still need to find some new comfy black dress flats and a new pair of dark brown heels (my current pair hurt my feet) so any suggestions in this area would be great. once i find my new shoes and pick up a few more little things i will be ready to go.

my new love

while i was in Ky I did a little shopping at a few of my favorite little boutiques and look what i found... it's my new love!

this isn't the greatest picture to show you how beautiful it is, but it is a gorgeous red and it lays perfectly flat and isn't uncomfortable to wear like some heavier beaded pieces.

i have to mention in this same post that i'm very disappointed. one of the shops that i so often frequented when living in Ky had went out of business. i was completely shocked that this quaint little shop that had the cutest jewelry and great gift finds was no longer there. talk about disappointed... it just so happened that while i was there i went over to a girls night in event at a friends and the owner of that shop was there as well. i was like OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT HAPPENED and she just said that the economy wasn't what it used to be and gifts were just not on people's shopping lists.

then... once i got back to Kansas i remembered buying a similar piece of jewelry from a local shop and went to see if they might have something that would complement my new love and guess what... it was no longer there either.

SERIOUSLY, people please support your local small businesses, you can usually find the best handcrafted pieces and great unique gifts at these smaller shops. i love to find one of a kind pieces and you just can't do that at wal-mart and target.

okay rant over, but i just hate that these businesses are gone and now i have less places to discover new things and artists that create beautiful things have less places to sell their great bargains.

Seeing Red, White & Blue

It's the 4th and there are flags everywhere, but there is another red, white and blue to be seen...

These are the colors of the #14 car of Tony Stewart, who has the pole at the Daytona Race tonight. My sweethubby is there with his dad and I hope they have a fun & safe time and that it doesn't rain too much and the race gets to be completed as a race to the finish and not called for rain or delayed until tomorrow (are you listening GOD??)

The girls and I are heading to the beach to enjoy a day of hopefully SUN and will probably visit the pool as well. We are staying at the Palm Coast Hammock Resort and it is B-E-A-U-ti-Ful!!! It is oceanfront and has some great pools for the girls (they love lazy rivers, OK so do I). Here are a few pics from our first day. Enjoy...
