as if i don't talk about it enough from time to time, i am from Kentucky!
today is the day of the Oaks. the picture above is from last years Oaks Day.
it was a rainy dreary day, same as their forecast this year, but once your inside, the atmosphere is sunny with the excitement of not only the Oaks Day events but of course the next days events...
the Derby!
i wish i was there now, but alas i'm at home watching the events on tv and getting ready so i can go meet
gwen
for lunch today. it's also raining here in KC, but lunch will brighten my day :)
okay, back to the Oaks & Derby events, this year Churchill has partnered with Susan G. Komen to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research,
i bet there will be tons of pink sported this year.

i wish you could see my shoes in that picture up there, because they were pink :)
one reason i wish i was there this year for the events is because you get to see lots of celebs. up close.

this year, Bethenney Frankel from RHWONY, is going to be there covering the events as a correspondent for NBC. Bethenney is my favorite housewife (although she is single. haha!) i love her quick sass and that she stands up for her self and she knows what she wants and she is working hard to get it. i haven't gotten the chance to get her new book but i've read so many rave reviews i think i might have to pick it up.

are you planning on watching the Derby or even better are you having a fabulous Derby party?
well either way if you want to get in on the fun of Derby day, put on one of your cute sun dresses and get one of those big floppy sun hats, throw on some pearls and some heels and make yourself a mint julep.
here is Bethenney's gin julep recipe that is much more figure friendly:
• 4 tablespoons gin
• 4 tablespoons club soda
• 8 mint leaves
• 2 teaspoons honey (put in microwave/heat for 10 seconds)
• 1/2 cup crushed ice (use blender)
Pour all ingredients into a glass and muddle, then pour over the crushed ice
add a sprig of mint for garnish and
ENJOY!

Oh...we should have planned a girls trip to the pink Kentucky Derby!!! That would have been so much fun. But lunch was great too!!! I couldn't get anyone to eat my leftovers so I had an afternoon snack of crispy chicken and fries. YUMMY!!! Love Ya!! XOXO
I agree, Bethenny is the best one on that show. I've been catching up on Sundays.
Did you ever catch her on Martha Stewart's Apprentice??
Good thing you didn't go considering the weather! Although the weather is never good for Derby. How about that long shot pulling it off? Did you see the superfecta payout - 1/2 a mill?!! Seriously!
